NOMINATIONS FOR 2025 NAST AWARDS

The National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Philippines honors Filipino scientists for their outstanding contributions to scientific research and development, offering incentives for excellence. Nominations are now open for the 2025 NAST Awards in the following categories.

1) Outstanding Young Scientist Award

Open to Filipino scientists under 41 years old (as of the award year) who have made significant contributions to science and technology. Up to 12 awards are given annually across these divisions: Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemical, Mathematical & Physical Sciences, Engineering Sciences & Technology, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences.

2) NAST Environmental Science Award

Recognizes outstanding scientific and technological research work that contributes to environmental protection and conservation.

3) NAST Talent Search for Young Scientists

Open to young Filipino scientists under 36 years old (as of the award year) with at least a master’s degree. The award aims to inspire and encourage young people to pursue careers in science.

4) Outstanding Book and/or Monograph Award

Given annually for books and/or monographs published by Filipino publishers based in the Philippines within five years preceding the award. To qualify, the majority of the authors must be Filipino. Plaques of recognition will be awarded to the author/s of books or monographs adjudged to be outstanding in the field of: Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences, Engineering Sciences and Technology, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences.

5) Outstanding Scientific Paper Awards

Given annually for papers published in Thompson Reuters or SCOPUS listed journals in the Philippines within five years preceding the award. Plaques of recognition will be awarded to the author/s of papers adjudged to be outstanding in the fields of: Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences, Engineering Sciences and Technology, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences.

6) NAST Award for Outstanding Research in Tropical Medicine

Recognizes outstanding research works that contribute to the advancement of the country’s knowledge and practice in Tropical Medicine.

7) Dr. Geminiano De Ocampo Visionary Awards for Medical Research

Recognizes clinician researchers who have created the vision for medical research in the country through their outstanding work in medical research that have blazed and/or pioneered the trail for medical innovations and health research and development. The research should have created and traversed new frontiers in medicine through significant contributions to the fund of medical knowledge or the advancement of clinical practice in the country and have significantly impacted on the lives of the Filipino people.

HONG KONG PhD FELLOWSHIP SCHEME 2025/26

The Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong invites students interested in pursuing PhD studies at research universities in Hong Kong to apply for the PhD Fellowship Scheme for the 2025 and 2026 academic years. This scheme offers a competitive annual stipend, along with allowances for conference participation and research-related travel, available for up to three years.

Eligibility

This fellowship is open to individuals seeking admission as new full-time PhD students at any of the following eight UGC-funded universities, regardless of their country of origin, prior work experience, or ethnic background:

1. 1. City University of Hong Kong
   2. Hong Kong Baptist University
   3. Lingnan University
   4. The Chinese University of Hong Kong
   5. The Education University of Hong Kong
   6. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
   7. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
   8. The University of Hong Kong

Application Process

Eligible candidates must submit their initial application to the RGC via the online system at https://cerg1.ugc.edu.hk/hkpfs/InitApplication.jsp to obtain an HKPFS Reference Number. Following this, applicants can submit their full applications to their chosen universities.

Deadline

Initial applications will be accepted until 1 December 2024 at 12:00 noon Hong Kong Time (GMT + 8 hours).
