#OpportunitiesCorner: Week 5 – January 2025
Hello there! The UP Diliman Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs’ #OpportunitiesCorner is an update on available scholarships, exchange programs, conferences, workshops, and other skill-enhancing initiatives for UP Diliman students. Here’s for the 5th week of January 2025:
LMINT & STAR SCHOLARSHIPS IN ITALY
Applications are now open for the University of Brescia (UNIBS) “STAR-Students At Risk” scholarships, available for three-year Bachelor’s degree programs and two-year Master’s degree programs, as well as for LMINT scholarships for English-taught Master’s degrees!
Star “Students at Risk” Grant
- For students with nationality and with residence in a developing country pursuant to Decree n. 115/2023 February 28th 2023 or from the following countries defined as priority by the Italian Agency for Cooperation.
- Must be under 30 years old at the time of the application deadline
- Must be registering for the first time at an Italian university.
- Must hold a valid university degree obtained abroad, recognized by the education system of the country where it was awarded, and suitable for admission to the chosen Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program:
- For Master’s degree programs, candidates must possess either a B2 level English proficiency certificate (CEFR) or have completed their previous studies in English.
- Candidates expected to complete their degree by 30 June 2024 are also eligible to apply.
LMINT Grant
- Must be a resident and citizen of a non-EU country
- Must be under 30 at the application deadline (except for renewals)
- First-time registrant at an Italian university
- Hold a recognized university degree of at least three years, comparable to the first cycle QF-EHEA/6th level EQF, qualifying for Master’s admission
- Provide a B2-level English certificate (CEFR) or have completed previous studies in English.
- For students who intend to enroll in one of the following Masters’ degree programs in English:
- Communication technologies and multimedia
- Civil and Environmental Engineering
- Management Curriculum International Business
- Management curriculum Green economy and sustainability
- Analytics and Data Science for Economics and Management

ERNST MACH GRANT IN AUSTRIA
The Ernst Mach Grant – ASEA-UNINET offers scholarships for researchers and students from the Philippines and other eligible countries to pursue studies in Austria. Scholarships are available for the following research fields: Natural Sciences, Technical Sciences, Human Medicine (Health Sciences), Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts. This grant supports full PhD programs, postdoctoral research stays, and studies in music practice at ASEA-UNINET member universities in Austria.
Eligibility:
- Citizen of the Philippines (or Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, or Vietnam)
- Must not have lived/studied/pursued research/pursued academic work in Austria in the in the six months prior to the grant. Applicants who are already permanently residing in Austria or who have completed their academic education mainly in Austria are not eligible to apply.
- Age Requirements:
- Undergraduates, graduates, and PhD applicants: Maximum age 35
- Postdocs: Maximum age 45
- Proficiency in English and/or German
Type of grant: Semester and/or one-year grants, Research grants, Grants for whole degree programs in the target country
Duration:
Music Practice: 9 months
Full PhD: 36 months
Postdoc: 4 to 9 months
Grant benefits:
Monthly Scholarship: 1,300 Euro
Monthly Mobility Subsidy: 300 Euro (only for Full PhD Grant)
Note: Supplementary grant, own funds are required!
Applications are possible in the following scholarship categories:
- Music Practice – Undergraduates and Graduates (students seeking or who have finished their Bachelor degree) in the field of music practice including: instrumental and vocal performance, composition, and conducting.
- Full PhD – Postgraduates who seek to complete a full doctorate/PhD-programme in Austria, who fulfill the requirements for admission, and who have completed their studies at a higher education institution outside Austria.
- Postdoc – Postdocs who are involved in teaching and research at an ASEA-UNINET member university in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, or Vietnam.
Requirements:
- Research proposal (5-10 pages)
- Letter of Acceptance of the supervisor at the Austrian host university
- Two Letters of Recommendation by university lecturers
- Copy of passport
- University graduation certificates with German or English translation
- In the field of Music Practice: Statement of Motivation (this replaces the Research Proposal) with video and/or music clips demonstrating the applicant’s musical practice; also a Letter of Endorsement, which is issued jointly by the Austrian Universities of Music after the auditions have been passed successfully (replaces the Letter of Consent of the supervisor).

FREE INDONESIAN LANGUAGE COURSE
The Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) invites language and culture enthusiasts to join the Fun Bahasa Indonesia and Cultural Course Program (FBICC).
“FBICC is a basic or beginner level Indonesia language course and was initiated in 2020 as a means to provide global citizens with the opportunity to learn basic Bahasa Indonesia and gain insights into Indonesian culture. Since its inception, FBICC has witnessed significant success, with more than 3000 participants from more than 110 countries joining the program since 2020.”
Program Highlights:
