Hello there! The UP Diliman Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs’ #OpportunitiesCorner is an update on available scholarships, exchange programs, conferences, workshops, and other skill-enhancing initiatives for UP Diliman students. Here’s for the 5th week of June 2024:
HALO HALO 2024: Arts in Diversity
Halo Halo 2024: Arts in Diversity, organized by the students of Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL), cordially invite everyone to join their exhibit on July 12-14, 2024, at the UGF Civic Hall, Festival Mall Alabang. This event conveys unity through artistic expression, akin to the diverse ingredients of a halo-halo. The dessert also symbolizes resilience and strength: a cool treat amidst the hot weather. It aims to empowers unity through the vibrant fusion of artistic expression.
Activities:
- Artistic Showcases: Take in the dazzling displays and performances that highlight the diverse range of art that have shaped our global community.
- Interactive Workshops: Learn new skills and unleash your creativity in these practical classes taught by accomplished artists.
- Fun Activities: Participants will get a chance to interact with their fellow artists throughout the event.
- Panel Discussion: Learn how creativity can promote inclusivity and build understanding.
Throughout the event, each day there will be two professional guest speakers from various Multimedia Arts fields. There are also special events that will engage the audience into participating, alongside other entertainment.

Global E-Commerce Challenge 2024
Alibaba International proudly announces the Global E-Commerce Challenge (GEC) 2024, offering university students a unique platform to demonstrate their skills and innovative ideas on a global stage.
GEC 2024 challenges participants to create pioneering AI prototypes that can revolutionize consumer experiences and propel Alibaba International’s global expansion. Participants can choose to address one of the following sub-tracks under the main theme, “Revolutionizing Consumer Experiences through AI-Driven Innovations”:
- Personalization and Engagement
- Visual and Voice Search Enhancement
- Cross-Border E-Commerce Optimization
Prizes: USD $10,000 in attractive prizes and potential funding for AI prototypes.
Registration Requirements:
This challenge is open to university students across all disciplines. Form a squad of up to 2-4 teammates and get ready to bring the heat. After forming a team, register here. Participants will be asked to do the following tasks:
- AI-Generated Image (Image + 500 word description)
- You are a seller looking to launch a new product on one of Alibaba’s 6 e-commerce platforms (Alibaba.com, AliExpress, Lazada, Mirava, Trendyol, Daraz)
- Use the Pic Copilot Tool (www.dscopilot.ai/?utm_source=gec) and other AI tools to create an AI-generated image for either your storefront or product to promote it successfully.
- Support the image with a compelling 500-word description as a seller promoting your new product, including how you incorporated AI tools for image generation
- 1,000-word proposal outlining your big AI-enabled solution to tackle the problem statement!
This will culminate into an AI-enabled prototype in the global finals stage.
