OVCSA Typhoon Relief Efforts

Due to the onslaught of several typhoons, including most recently Typhoon Ulysses, The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA) has been active in supporting various relief efforts initiated by the University as well as various student formations and organizations.
#BurunyogIsko
#BurunyogIsko is a fundraising initiative by the OVCSA and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs (OVCCA). Aiming to call for unity or “burunyog,” this initiative aims to raise funds for over 750 UP Diliman students in the Bicol region and hundreds more around the area. The university has found it best to reach these areas through its student organizations in the affected areas: UP Ibalon, UP Saro, UP Harong, UP Moriones, and UP Lawod. Besides this, the University has also partnered with Catanduanes State University to also help out their own students and scholars.
As typhoon Ulysses also gravely affected Metro Manila, the University is working with Tulong Kabataan-UPD and the UPD University Student Council (USC) in the distribution of goods and other forms of help towards affected students and faculty.
Temporary Shelter for UPD Students
The University has also extended help for those in need of temporary accommodation. As of press time, there have been two refugees at the Kalayaan Residence Hall. Help has been extended especially for students and faculty affected by the typhoon.
Endorsement of Tulong Kabataan-USC Relief Efforts
The OVCSA endorses and commends the efforts of Tulong Kabataan and the UPD USC in extending relief efforts to others, particularly to affected UPD students, faculty, and staff. Relief operations are still ongoing in the College of Science.
Virtual Open Mic
It is a UP tradition to end the year by holding several events such as the Pailaw in Quezon Hall which marks the start of the December celebration, the sought after Lantern Parade where colleges and offices pride their bright-colored and meaningful lanterns around the Academic Oval, and the Open Mic Nights usually held in the Carillon Tower which gives the members of the UP Diliman community the avenue to showcase their talents and express themselves.
The Open Mic Night for this year will be livestreamed on December 6 & 13. Aside from its primary purpose to serve as a virtual stage for these performers, this will also be a fundraising event to aid the needs of the victims of the recent typhoons Rolly, Siony, and Ulysses.
Virtual Fan Meet
As part of the 2020 Year-End Program of the University of the Philippines, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs is holding a series of fundraising events for victims of typhoons, through the Virtual Open Mic Nights 2020 and a special Virtual Fan Meet in partnership with the CHK Varsity Sports Program. Proceeds from these events will go to #BurunyogIsko, UP Diliman’s fund drive, spearheaded by the OVCSA and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs for disaster-affected students.
