Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (2023/24)

Application for Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2023/24 Opens | Association  of Ghana Scholars, Hong Kong

At present, the fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$27,100 (approx. US$3,470) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$13,600 (approx. US$1,740) per year for a period of three years.  A total of 300 fellowships will be awarded for PhD studies commencing in the 2023/24 academic year.

International Christian University, Japan – Virtual Exchange Program

ICU is delighted to invite UP students to their virtual exchange program which allows international students to take one or two online courses offered at ICU while being enrolled at their home university. At the end of the term, ICU will send an official transcript to their home institutions. For autumn 2022, tuition for students from ICU student exchange partner institutions is waived.

To apply, interested students must register at the OIL Portal and start a New Outbound Exchange application. Successful applicants will be nominated by UP OIL to ICU.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Archi-Cultural Summer Programme

The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), cordially invites everyone to join their physical (in-person) Summer Programme with the theme Archi-Cultural. Students will learn the unique architecture in Malaysia and with a little twist of Malaysian culture as well.

The Archi-Cultural Summer Program is not only for students majoring in architecture but it is also suitable for students majoring in other courses. This is to allow the students to familiarize with the unique architecture Malaysia has to offer and also the diverse culture in Malaysia that is available.

Exciting activities and site visits around Penang will also be included in the summer programme. All the details of the Archi-Cultural Summer Programme is provided in the brochure attached in this email. The brochure will also include the link and QR code for the participation of students.

2022 Summer e-GYLA: Flagship Learning Course Cooperated with UNIDO

The 2022 Summer Global Youth Leadership Academy (GYLA) will be jointly held with UNIDO from July 18 to 29. Students at all levels are welcome to participate.

Global Youth Leadership Academy (GYLA) is a youth-led platform, a flagship learning program for Empowering Youth as Future Leaders, Social Entrepreneurs and International Civil Servants for Engagement in Achievement of SDGs. GYLA provides young people with opportunities to learn and exchange knowledge and experiences with global leaders to unleash their potential to become systems thinkers, change-makers, social innovators and global leaders. More than 1,300 participants from 50+ universities across the world have attended GYLA. 50+ of them work in the United Nations and hundreds of them study in top universities after graduation.

Through GYLA, participants will be able to explore critical discussions in key areas in alignment with the UN 2030 Agenda and the UNIDO Framework, and with worlds-leading experts sharing lights on:

• The Expertise and Knowledge of The UN System (the UN 2030 Agenda, UNIDO & ISID, etc.)

[2022 ASEAN ICONS IZN Awards] Call for Nominations and Applications

The Commission will be commemorating the 55th Founding Anniversary of the ASEAN through a celebration with the Philippine higher education sector. In observance of this event, the CHED-International Affairs Staff (IAS) will be organizing the ASEAN Philippine Higher Education Internationalization Champions Of Nation-building and Sustainability Awards Night (ASEAN ICONS) on 26 August 2022 in Hilton Manila, Metro Manila.

As the highlight of CHED’s ASEAN celebration, the ASEAN ICONS shall recognize exemplary Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that championed the global reputation of the Philippine higher education through their commendable performance in recognized international rankings and ratings, trailblazing efforts to advance internationalization of HEIs, and innovative initiatives to contribute to the country’s economic and societal goals.

One of the major merits to be conferred is the Internationalization (IZN) Awards. Following the 1st Philippine Higher Education Internationalization Award in 2021, this year’s IZN awards is divided into four categories which seeks to recognize the HEIs’ efforts in identified engagements of  internationalization. The categories are:

• Global Citizenship Awards (for Private HEIs and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)
• Best IZN Practice during the Pandemic (for Private HEIs and SUCs)
• Outstanding Contribution to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (for Private HEIs and SUCs)
• IZN Leadership Award (for executive officials of HEIs who exemplify transformative and futuristic leadership in internationalization of Philippine Higher Education)

4th Philippine Koreanist Congress

As a leading Korean Studies research institution in the Philippines, UP KRC is organizing the 2022 (4th) Philippine Koreanist Congress “Transcending the Past: Korean Diaspora Inside and Outside the Peninsula,” on 19 Aug (Fri) 2022 at 2:00 PM.

The event is to disseminate the latest academic outcomes of renowned scholars and mobilize Koreanists in the Philippines to extend their knowledge of relevant issues in various fields. The event is held in partnership with the Scalabrini Migration Center, Ateneo Department of Political Science, Ateneo Korean Studies Program, and UP Arirang.

Under the overarching theme “Transcending the Past: Korean Diaspora Inside and Outside the Peninsula,” we invited Dr. Dong-yeob Kim (Associate Professor and Director at the Korea Institute for ASEAN Studies, Busan University of Foreign Studies (KIAS-BUFS)) who will talk about Korean immigration policy, Korean migrant communities, Korean diaspora in the 21st century, and Korean enclaves and their history in the Philippines.
