Hello there! The UP Diliman Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs’ #OpportunitiesCorner is an update on available scholarships, exchange programs, conferences, workshops, and other skill-enhancing initiatives for UP Diliman students. Here’s for the 4th week of April 2024:

The Ateneo de Naga Diplomatic Society, a new student organization which aims to advance the field of International Relations and Diplomacy in the Bicol region, is providing training and collaboration for aspiring diplomats and leaders. The organization is holding the Diplomatic League Conference-Bicol and Model United Nations Security Council scheduled on April 27-28, 2024 at Ateneo de Naga University, Naga City, Camarines Sur. The event is organized in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic League.

The objectives of this event are:

  • Raise public awareness about the importance of diplomacy;
  • Provide students with practical training and introductory exposure to the field of diplomacy;
  • Create space for students to build their networks with fellow students and young professionals;
  • Assist students in initiating projects/activities with the spirit of collaboration;
  • Support the work of the Diplomatic League, including engagement expansion to Bicol Schools and Universities, and;
  • Support the ongoing campaign of the Department of Foreign Affairs for the Philippines to take a seat in the United Nations Security Council for 2027-2028.
  • To promote the diplomacy of Bicolandia and Naga City.

This activity offers a unique opportunity to participate in a conference and UN simulation exercise which will enhance their academic training and develop significant professional skills in public speaking, diplomacy and negotiations.  This event is also an excellent opportunity for students to be introduced to the field of diplomacy, to interact with fellow students and young professionals and meet officials from the DFA including Undersecretary Jesus “Gary” Domingo, the DFA Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Affairs. He is a career diplomat who most recently served as Philippine Ambassador to New Zealand and a great advocate for youth leadership.

There will be a registration fee of PHP 1200 for delegates and PHP 1000 for observers, covering conference materials, certificates, and a two-day lunch. This registration fee will thus not cover participant accommodation and transportation. The finance committee will send an invoice for the payment through the participant’s registered email address.
