Hello there! The UP Diliman Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs’ #OpportunitiesCorner is an update on available scholarships, exchange programs, conferences, workshops, and other skill-enhancing initiatives for UP Diliman students. Here’s for the 4th week of January 2025:

 

 

2025 SSHN MOBILITY/RESEARCH GRANT

The 2025 Mobility/Research Grant “Séjours Scientifiques de Haut Niveau (SSHN)” is now accepting applications! The call is designed for academic and research staff intending to spend 2-4 weeks in a Higher Education or Research Institute in France, also aiming to increase cooperation with French institutions.

Eligibility:

• Filipino with a tenure position in a public or private higher education institution or scientific reseach laboratory in the Philippines
• PhD degree holder (Candidates who have obtained a doctorate for more than 5 years are considered “confirmed researchers”, while those who have obtained a doctorate within the last 5 years are considered “young researchers”)
• Only mobilities scheduled between the 15th of May and ending at the latest on the 1st of December will be eligible

Grant Provisions:

• Travel
  • round-trip air ticket
• Monthly allowance
  • young researcher: 425euros/week;
  • senior researcher: 500 euros/week
• Other benefits
  • health and repatriation insurance
  • visa fees coverage
  • accommodation (it can be booked through Campus France Paris, the rent would be then deducted from the grant)

Selection criteria:

• Applications will be assessed on the basis of the precision of the project and elements ensuring the added value and impact of the mobility on personnal, institutional and cooperation levels.
• The cover letter and/or letter of invitation may include a description of the activities to be carried out during the stay (e.g. titles of scientific articles in preparation), the reasons for the choice of the host organization, past achievements in line with the mobility project, relevance to the areas of research developed by the home  laboratories, and actions generating the strengthening or creation of new collaborations.
• The quality and precision of the work plan will be assessed through the mobility timetable, which must demonstrate that the project has been carefully prepared in advance. Candidacies proposing a co-financing will be positively assessed.

HUNGARIAN STATE SCHOLARSHIPS 2025

The Tempus Public Foundation, with financial support from the Hungarian Government, invites applications for Summer University Courses aimed at students, graduates, and professionals interested in Hungarian language, culture, and other thematic courses.

Eligibility:

• Open to Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral students.
• Applicants must be 18 years or older.
• Filipino citizens or individuals from countries with a bilateral agreement with Hungary.

• Hungarian for Foreigners

Implementation of the Scholarship:

Scholarships have to be implemented during the summer of 2025. The duration and length of summer  university courses are predefined and cannot be changed. The scholarship can only be used within the implementation period, it cannot be postponed to the following academic year. At most one application can be submitted for summer courses (in case of several applications, the last one will be considered as valid). Students may submit another application for partial/semester studies, full degree studies1 or for study visits in case they do not overlap in time. The applicant can thus be granted with a second scholarship if there is no time overlap between the two and if the budgetary allocations make it possible. Scholarship holders must stay in Hungary during the entire period of their studies.

Scholarship Coverage:

• Participation fee, including tuition, accommodation, and meals.
• Travel expenses are not covered.

Timeline:

Deadline of Applications: 28 February 2025 (5:00 PM CET).
Selection Process: March–April 2025.
Notification of Results: May 2025.
Summer Courses: June–August 2025.

FULBRIGHT FOREIGN STUDENT PROGRAM

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is a scholarship opportunity for Filipinos to study at the graduate level (master’s or doctoral studies) or pursue non-degree doctoral dissertation research in the United States.

Grants under the Fulbright Foreign Student Program for Filipinos are for a maximum of one academic year for non-degree, one to two years for master’s, and two years for doctoral degree studies.

“The Philippine-American Educational Foundation, also known as Fulbright Philippines, is the bi-national commission which administers the Fulbright Program, a student exchange program which awards scholarship grants for Filipinos to the United States. The Fulbright Program aims to strengthen the relationship and increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the Philippines by awarding graduate study, lecturing, research grants, and research fellowships.

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is a scholarship opportunity for Filipinos to study at the graduate level (master’s or doctoral studies) or pursue non-degree doctoral dissertation research in the United States. The grant provides for tuition and fees, settling-in-allowance, monthly maintenance allowance, books and supplies allowance, in-transit allowance, health and accident insurance, roundtrip international airfare, and excess baggage allowance.”

General Eligibility Requirements:

• Philippine citizenship
  • Individuals holding dual citizenship, permanent residents, and/or are presently
    studying in the U.S. are not eligible.
• English proficiency
• College degree with a major in the field of specialization; excellent undergraduate record
• Applicants must have at least two years of professional work experience (after college) in
  their field of specialization. Note that assistantships during college do not count.
• Applicants must be in good health to pursue graduate work in the U.S.
• Applicants must return to the Philippines immediately upon completion of study.
• Non-degree applicants must meet the added requirements:
  • Applicants for doctoral dissertation must show proof that materials required to
    pursue research are not available in the Philippines but are available in the
    United States.

Grant Provisions:
The scholarship provides funding for:

• Round-trip international airfare
• Monthly maintenance allowance
• Tuition and fees
• Book and supplies allowance
• Health and accident insurance

 

Fields of Study:

• Study of the United States (American culture, life and society, etc)
• Global Issues
• Open Grants  (fields of study not covered by the first two field categories with the exception of medicine, nursing, physical and occupational therapy, clinical psychology, medical technology, and accountancy)
